    These Things I Believe.A. M. Shuham - 2013 - Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics 3 (2):120-122.
In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:These Things I BelieveA. M. ShuhamI am a health care professional who has worked in the field for two decades. I have been part of small miracles and heartbreaking events, which kept me up at night. Although I do not [End Page 120] provide direct patient care, my advanced education and expertise allows me to advise members of the health care team when difficult questions arise about the goals (...)

    Semantic syntax.Pieter A. M. Seuren - 1996 - Cambridge: Blackwell.
This book presents and exemplifies the theory of grammar called Semantic Syntax. The grammar, which offers a syntactic theory closely connected with semantic analyses, is a direct continuation of Generative Semantics; it will re-ignite interest in that framework which flourished and promised so much in the 1960s and 1970s.

How do neuronal and muscle-mechanical properties contribute to the performance of the “delta lognormal” model?C. C. A. M. Gielen - 1997 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 20 (2):308-309.
Plamondon & Alimi's model will gain substantially in credibility when it is able to come up with predictions for new (rather than old) experimental results that discriminate between various models. Moreover, the present model is nothing more than a descriptive not an explanation for motor performance. A link to the contribution of various neuronal mechanisms involved in motor control and of muscle properties to the performance of the model is crucial.

Suffering Belief: Evil and the Anglo-American Defense of Theism.A. M. Weisberger - 1999 - Peter Lang.
One of the most intractable problems for the contemporary Anglo-American theist is reconciling the enormous amount of apparent gratuitous suffering in the world with the existence of an all-perfect deity. Suffering Belief reviews the leading attempts at justifying the existence of evil and salvaging a rational basis of belief in the traditional Western God. Through a systematic evaluation of the kinds of evil that most strongly call belief into question, such as genocide, natural catastrophes, animal suffering, and disease, it is (...)

The Ethics of the Broader Usage of Prozac: Social Choice or Social Bias?A. M. Weisberger - 1995 - International Journal of Applied Philosophy 10 (1):69-74.
The author raises the ethical problem of the widespread use of drugs such as Prozac, among individuals with normal mental disorders, such as nostalgia or discomfort. Referring to the work of practitioner P. Kramer, the author shows that Prozac is a psychiatric tool allowing individuals to better integrate into a society increasingly medicalized.

The uniqueness of the teaching profession is revealed in the article, a teacher professiogram is given and the content of such basic scientific concepts such as educational activities, pedagogical culture, pedagogical competence is specified. The content of the article is related to the change of the educational paradigm, which assumes an orientation on the work of teachers. Demographic characteristics of a rural area in Kenya in 1974–80.J. K. van Ginneken, A. S. Muller, A. M. Voorhoeve & Omondi-Odhiambo - 1984 - Journal of Biosocial Science 16 (3):411-423.
A longitudinal, epidemiological study was carried out in a rural area of Kenya with a population of about 28,000 between 1974 and 1980. Population registration during this time showed that population growth was very high between 1974 and 1978 (4·4% per year) and much lower in 1979 and 1980 (1·1%). Natural increase was nearly as high as in Kenya as a whole (3·7%) in this period. Fertility was somewhat lower than in all Kenya (the crude birth rate was 46 per (...)

Summary If action theory is to be relevant for the study of social phenomena, its scope has to be enlarged so as to include social structures. A hermeneutic theory of action, which draws on the thoughts of Gadamer, Merleau-Ponty, Ricoeur and Giddens, can meet this requirement. The hermeneutic concept of action, which emphasises the importance of tradition, style and rituals, demonstrates that action and structure presuppose and explain each other. The mutual relationship between action and structure is particularly clear in (...)

The chapter deals with the contrast between defining aspects of religious rigidity, a socio-historically derived counter-narrative, and anti-consumerism in Rastafarian philosophy and culture on one hand and the universal message and commercial success of the music on the other. After discussing the status of the genre as part of Jamaican national culture, the inherent socio-political claim of Reggae and Rastafarian culture are put in context with the conflicting claims of superiority and non-partiality that can frequently be found in the music. The objectives of this study were to develop a high-density chromosome bin map of homoeologous group 7 in hexaploid wheat, to identify gene distribution in these chromosomes, and to perform comparative studies of wheat with rice and barley. We mapped 2148 loci from 919 EST clones onto group 7 chromosomes of wheat. In the majority of cases the numbers of loci were significantly lower in the centromeric regions and tended to increase in the distal regions. The level of duplicated loci (...)

A Pandemic Instrument Can Start Turning Collective Problems into Collective Solutions by Governing the Common-Pool Resource of Antimicrobial Effectiveness.Isaac Weldon, Kathy Liddell, Susan Rogers Van Katwyk, Steven J. Hoffman, Timo Minssen, Kevin Outterson, Stephanie Palmer, A. M. Viens & Jorge Viñuales - 2022 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 50 (S2):17-25.
To address the complex challenge of global antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a pandemic treaty should include mechanisms that 1) equitably address the access gap for antimicrobials, diagnostic technologies, and alternative therapies; 2) equitably conserve antimicrobials to sustain effectiveness and access across time and space; 3) equitably finance the investment, discovery, development, and distribution of new technologies; and 4) equitably finance and establish greater upstream and midstream infection prevention measures globally. Biodiversity, climate, and nuclear governance offer lessons for addressing these challenges.

    (1 other version)Heidegger. [REVIEW]M. A. - 1967 - Review of Metaphysics 20 (4):716-716.
It seems that Heidegger's thought is subject to the dubious destiny of inspiring fat commentaries. However, Colombo's has this advantage over many of its counterparts, viz., it is more a true study than a reiteration. This is so in three important respects. First, a systematization of the thought of Heidegger is attempted, and, in so far as this is possible, rather successfully achieved. The book is divided into five parts, whose continuity follows only in part the development of Heidegger. Happily, (...)

    Lo Storicismo Tedesco Contemporaneo. [REVIEW]M. A. - 1972 - Review of Metaphysics 26 (1):170-172.
Fifteen years after the first edition of this comprehensive work, German historicism remains largely and conspicuously in the shadows. The great historico-philological and historico-sociological work produced by, and on the fringes of, this school has given way to specialization. Great polygraphs of the caliber of a Meinecke, a Vossler, a Curtius, a Cassirer, a Croce, or an Auerbach seem to have completely disappeared from the scene. But is the necessity for cultural synthesis that these men stressed any less urgent today (...)

This collection of articles, essays, monographs, and books written over a period of thirty years is a delight. It is very useful for consultation purposes for issues in ontology and contemporary philosophy. The development of thought reflected in these writings constitutes a perfect guide to what is living and what is dead in present philosophical practice. What is unique in Ferrater is the amplitude of the circumstance. Only an extreme methodological flexibility allows him to assimilate such a wide world without (...)
